Mataleñas Path

ravelling around the city

Along the way, you will discover small beaches, cliffs and parks. This route is highly recommended for nature and photography lovers.

Mirador

The first essential stop is the Mirador de García Lago which offers a panoramic view of El Sardinero.

If you retrace your steps you will see a roundabout, cross the road and go up some stairs that will take you to the Mataleñas Path.  This will take you to one of the most beautiful places in Santander: Cabo Menor.

Following the path you will reach a small beach of fine golden sand that disappears at high tide, Molinucos Beach.

Mataleñas

Just on the other side is the Parque de Mataleñas. You will be able to access it thanks to the multiple accesses located along the path. Here you will find a large green area with a children's playground, from where you can enjoy breathtaking views. What's more, if you are a sports enthusiast, at one end of the park, in the middle of nature, there is a 1,200-metre circuit.

Continuing along the path you will reach the Mataleñas Beach, an ideal place to enjoy good views while you have a swim.

Monumento los caídos

From the side behind the lighthouse you will come to Cabo Mayor. As you ascend, you will see the monument to the Fallen in the Civil War and a viewpoint. To the right of this, there is a door with some steps that will take you to the cape itself and you can walk to the end of it.

EAt the top you will see the Faro de Cabo Mayor standing more than 30 metres high, it is the most important lighthouse in Cantabria. It was built in 1839 in the same place where, since ancient times, ships were signalled with flags during the day and with fire at night.

Faro Cabo Mayor

Inside the Cabo Mayor Lighthouse, you will find Centro de Arte Faro de Cabo Mayor, a museum specialising in the icon of the lighthouse and all its symbolism.

In these surroundings, we also enjoy impressive views of the Bay of Biscay from the Mirador de Cabo Mayor.
